Earshot Privacy Policy
Effective date: 21 October 2026
Earshot reads your PDFs, web articles and text aloud, with a natural voice that runs on your device. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Earshot on Android or iOS.
The short version
- What you enter stays on your device. Earshot has no account and no server of its own.
- Earshot does not use advertising or tracking.
- Earshot does not sell or share your information.
What Earshot stores on your device
- Your library: the text of documents you import (PDFs, text files, pasted text and web articles), their titles, and where you stopped reading.
- Usage counter: how many minutes of the natural voice you played today, to apply the free plan's daily limit.
- Exported audio: audio files you create, kept in the app's cache until you share or delete them.
- The natural-voice model: files downloaded once so the voice works offline.
- Settings: theme, language, voice, speed and reading display preferences.
Text-to-speech runs on your device. Earshot never uploads your documents or their text to any server.
This information is stored inside the app's private storage and is not sent anywhere.
When information leaves your device
Only when you choose to send it, for example when you export or share something, or email support. Earshot also connects to the internet in these cases, without sending your documents:
- Adding a web article: Earshot downloads the page you entered from that website, like a browser would. The website sees an ordinary request from your device.
- Downloading the natural voice: the voice files are downloaded from our file host, which sees your device's IP address as with any download.
- Purchases: see below.
Device backups
On Android, Earshot opts out of Google backup. On iOS, the downloaded voice model is excluded from backups; your library may be included in your own iCloud or computer backup if device backup is on, under your account and Apple's terms.
Notifications
If you start a free trial and allow notifications, Earshot schedules one local notification on your device to remind you two days before the trial ends. Nothing is sent to a server.
Purchases (Earshot Plus)
Purchases are handled by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to confirm whether you have an active subscription; it receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase receipts, not your app data. See RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
Children
Earshot is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Deleting your information
Settings → Delete all documents removes your library, reading positions, usage counter and exported audio; Settings → Natural voice → Remove deletes the voice model. Uninstalling Earshot removes all of its data from the device (copies in your own backups follow your backup settings). Because we don't hold your data, there is nothing to delete on a server.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and mention significant changes in the release notes.
